Jerick McKinnon has a chance to do something no one has done in over 50 years

I think we can all agree that Jerick McKinnon has had somewhat of a resurgence this season. At age 30, the Kansas City Chiefs running back is one of the best all-around backs in the league.

Now, and when I say all-around, I mean all three things a running back needs to do. McKinnon can run the ball and has proven that.

He can catch the ball and has definitely proven that. But he can also pass block, as he is the best on the team at his position in that area, and he isn’t even the biggest in terms of size, not height. McKinnon and I have said this for most of the season, has been the Chiefs’ security blanket at times, and I’m sure fans are starting to love the pickup from just last year.

On Sunday, he will get to further prove that he is that guy. He has a chance to do something that hasn’t been done in over 50 years.

According to NFL Communications, McKinnon leads all running backs this season with a career-high six touchdown catches and has a touchdown catch in each of his last four games.

If he were to get another this Sunday, he will become the first running back with five straight games with a touchdown catch since 1970. McKinnon was almost tossed to the side and forgotten about like a broken toy, by several teams. The Chiefs saw something in him and picked him up for cheap.

Last season he was the third-string running back for most of the year. Then, against the Pittsburgh Steelers, he put on a show and was the guy. This year it has been that for the whole second half of the season.

If we know McKinnon and the relationship he has with Patrick Mahomes so far, we know that not only will he have a high chance of getting that done against the Broncos, he will carry this play into postseason play.
